DuBois Ashong’s Supernatural Thriller Stars Andrea Riseborough

Amin Joseph, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, Gavin Warren,
Victoria Hill, Starletta DuPois, and Judith Scott Round Out the Cast

 

Los Angeles, August 19 – Production started this week on GEECHEE, the supernatural thriller backed by Stuart Ford’s fast-growing independent content studio AGC Studios, it was announced today by AGC’s Chairman and CEO Ford. The film, which is shooting at Lantica Pinewood in the Dominican Republic, was on the eve of production when it was shut down in March due to Covid-19.

In addition it was also announced that Amin Joseph (Dope, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Baywatch, The After Party,  FX’s  Snowfall, USA’s Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G., CBS’ S.W.A.T.), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Tesla, HBO’s Girls, AMC’s NOS4A2, Netflix’ The Punisher), Antoinette Crowe-Legacy (Epix’s Godfather of Harlem), Gavin Warren (First Man, CBS’ NCIS: New Orleans, Netflix’ Daybreak), Victoria Hill (First Reformed, The Chaperone, Starletta DuPois (The Notebook, Big Momma’s House, ABC’s Lost), and Judith Scott (ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder) round out the cast led by Andrea Riseborough, whose feature credits include Oblivion, Birdman, Nocturnal Animals, The Death of Stalin, and The Grudge, and TV credits include Netflix’ Bloodline, Paramount’s Waco, and Amazon’s ZeroZeroZero, in the atmospheric and suspenseful horror thriller from writer/director DuBois Ashong.

Jamie Foxx/Datari Turner Productions are co-producing GEECHEE along with AGC’s Head of Film Linda McDonough and SVP of Film and Television Glendon Palmer.  AGC’s Ford and Miguel Palos, Andrea Scarso and Jamie Jessop of Ingenious Media, and Ricardo del Rio are onboard as executive producers.  The film is being financed by AGC Studios in association with Ingenious Media.

Andrea Riseborough stars in this sophisticated supernatural thriller where the mysterious Gullah Geechee culture in the South Carolina Sea Islands clashes with gentrification, cultural appropriation and the legacy of slavery, providing a uniquely terrifying experience.

Ashong, a graduate of AFI’s Directing Fellowship, has won numerous awards for his shorts, including Where the Water Runs, Run, and Life is What You Make It.  Joining Ashong is cinematographer Isiah Donté Lee (Netflix’s Burning Sands, Lena Waithe’s Boomerang) who reunites with production designer Erik Robert (Netflix’s Burning Sands).

The announcement follows on the heels of a busy production period for AGC.  The indie studio has wrapped production on a host of film and TV projects, including Neil Burger’s sci-fi thriller VOYAGERS, starring Tye Sheridan, Lily-Rose Depp, Fionn Whitehead, and Colin Farrell; Tate Taylor’s feature comedy BREAKING NEWS IN YUBA COUNTY, starring Oscar® winner Allison Janney, Mila Kunis, Regina Hall, Golden Globe® winner Awkwafina, and Wanda Sykes; revenge thriller THE SECRETS WE KEEP, starring Noomi Rapace and Joel Kinnaman; and started production this week on the second season of sci-fi television series WAR OF THE WORLDS, starring Gabriel Byrne and Daisy Edgar-Jones, which premiered on EPIX earlier this year.  AGC is a co-financier and partner with CNN Films on two documentary feature films: the recently released JOHN LEWIS: GOOD TROUBLE, and LADY BOSS: THE JACKIE COLLINS STORY, which in post-production.  In addition, AGC is a co-producer and co-financier and the international distribution partner on Roland Emmerich’s forthcoming sci-fi action epic MOONFALL; is in pre-production on QUEENPINS, from directors Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly, starring Kirsten Bell, Leslie Jones and Vince Vaughn; and is also in pre-production on the television adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s NEWS OF A KIDNAPPING for Amazon Studios.
